Welcome to Gilly Wear

Picture
Gilly Wear is named after my Tennessee Walker/Quarter Horse, horse Gilly. I’ve raised him from an 11 month old starving rescue foal to a magnificent saddle horse, who has brought me great joy in the 7 years I have had him.

I made these unique Gilly Wear saddle pads to answer a longstanding problem. How does one dry a saddle pad whose rubber shock pad can’t go in the dryer? I decided to make Gilly a new quilted saddle pad, fitted with a pocket where I could insert the rubber shock pad. As long as I was making it by hand, why not use my sewing and quilting skills to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind designer saddle pad? And so Gilly Wear was born.

I use 100% cotton designer fabric for the top of the pad, poly/cotton batting and a plain backing fabric. Gilly Wear Royal pads are made of rich designer drapery fabrics with poly batting and wool backing.

No two Gilly Wear pads are alike. Some have bling; some won’t. They’re hand-crafted with great attention to detail. Your horse will stand out in any crowd! My name is Jane and I’m the sole owner and operator of Gilly Wear. Design, cutting, sewing, and fulfillment are all up to me. Gilly doesn’t help much, other than to stand still and look handsome for the catalog photos.

I also make Liberty Bells for trail riders, to serve as an early warning system for riding in the woods. The bells alert animals that you are approaching, and your horse will like the soft tinkling of the brass bells. Liberty Bells have brass bells, glass beads and semi-precious stones sewn on a nylon cord.
